The Inspiration Behind NRB Hospital & Medical College

In what would become their final conversation, Barrister Lutfur Rahman's mother spoke of an unusual pain in her hand. Neither of them knew that this subtle warning was the harbinger of a fatal crisis. In their remote village, with no access to an MBBS-qualified doctor, she sought the advice of a local healer. Unaware of the gravity of her symptoms, he simply suggested rest. But hidden within that quiet pain were the unmistakable signs of an imminent heart attack.

Just three hours after their call, Lutfur received the devastating news: his mother had suffered a massive heart attack. In a desperate bid to save her, the family scrambled to find transportation, as no ambulances served their area. A microbus was their only option. Tragically, as she was being lifted into the vehicle, her life slipped away.

The ordeal didn't end there. The nearest hospital in Tajpur, a mere five miles away, lacked the necessary resources and turned them away, directing them to a facility in Sylhet. Precious time ebbed away during the hour-long journey to Osmani Hospital, where medical staff could do nothing but confirm her passing.

This profound loss ignited a resolute determination in Lutfur Rahman. He vowed that no other family should endure such preventable heartbreak. In honor of his mother, he envisioned a beacon of hope: NRB Hospital & Medical College.

There is not such thing as a remote area. If there are people - there needs to be healthcare.
— Md. Lutfur Rahman

A Vision Forged from Grief

While Lutfur had always harbored a passion for uplifting his community, the tragic loss of his mother crystallized his mission. He recognized that the label "remote area" should never equate to a lack of healthcare. "If there are people, there should be healthcare," he affirmed.

Understanding that infrastructure alone wouldn't suffice, he aspired to establish a medical college alongside the hospital. This institution would attract dedicated doctors, nurses, and students, fostering a culture of excellence in healthcare education. By doing so, he aimed to draw medical professionals to the region, ensuring that quality care was accessible to all.

A Mission to Save Lives

NRB Hospital & Medical College is dedicated not only to serving the underprivileged but also to preventing the loss of lives due to systemic healthcare deficiencies. This endeavor stands as a testament to Lutfur Rahman's unwavering commitment to ensuring that no other family experiences the anguish he endured. Through this initiative, he seeks to transform personal tragedy into a legacy of hope and healing for the entire community.
